Men’s fashion trends typically have seen very slight changes from season to season, at least compared to women’s fashion. However, this summer some of the best designers and fashion shows revealed a few changes in men’s shorts that are big and bold. Some will probably be a welcome change for some men, while other changes will most likely take a little courage and a lot of confidence to pull off the new trend. So, sit back and read up on what is coming up in men’s shorts for the summer fashion season of 2011.

The 2011 hem lengths for men’s shorts are varied, with one showing up right around the knee area, or slightly below. This length isn’t the big change this year, as knee length for men has been around for a long time. However, a sizeable cuffed or rolled hem is the biggest difference this time around. If you would like to dress it up a bit, this length can be paired with a nice shirt and sports coat, sweater, or vest. Another length, and making a coming back, is slightly above the mid thigh with a style resembling boxers.

The designers really stepped it up with the patterned materials of men’s shorts this year, with the most daring debuts in patterns men’s fashion has seen in years. The shorts both long and short, are parading bold larger checked blocks, flamboyant tropical prints, and yes, even brave new florals.

If the floral patterns and mid thigh lengths aren’t daring enough, the designers took it a step further with the male version of leggings, called meggings. These were designed to be worn underneath the various styles and designs of men’s shorts this season. The designers of the 2011 summer men’s fashion season has toned down the colors to balance the bold and brave patterns with muted and various tones of reds, blues, greens, and even pinks, along with beiges, creams, and white.

The new lengths, really aren’t that shocking, or even new. However, it just might take plenty of poise and self-confidence for a man to pull off wearing shorts with some of these bold patterns, especially a pair of floral shorts. However, if that is not daring enough for you, wear a pair of meggings underneath one of the new shorts of 2011. Whatever you do, wear it in fun.
