Looking After Your Diamond Ring – Easy To Follow Guidelines

Diamond rings are, undoubtedly, a fine piece of jewelry. They sparkle even without the sun and simply radiate the room. In addition to their beauty, many of them mean a great deal to someone, as they are often the symbol of marriage or are a family heirloom. And the diamond itself is not the only valuable piece of the ring; the band is usually constructed of high quality metal. Because of their value and sentiment, you should know how to clean and care for them.

Diamonds are not fragile stones by any means, but they can still become damaged with carelessness. Preventing the damage before it even happens is usually the best policy; therefore, they should not be worn whenever doing something that can harm the settings. Activities such as gardening, doing the dishes, or any other intensive hand work should be done without wearing the diamond ring. The action of arduous activity and exercise is not enough to hurt the ring by itself, but sweat can cause corrosion. It is important to remove the ring before performing these activities as well.

Care must be taken when storing diamond rings as well. They need to be stored by themselves, away from other pieces of jewelry. Diamond may be durable, but chipping may still occur if other pieces of jewelry bang into the ring hard enough. If placed in a box or other container with other jewels, this can happen somewhat easily, especially if that repository is handled a lot. Although much care might be taken with diamond rings, the prongs may occasionally require re-tipping by a qualified jeweler.

Even with normal wear, a diamond ring will still become slightly dirty from time to time. In warm water, dilute plain alcohol and let the ring soak. Then, using a soft bristle brush, lightly scrub the ring. When drying the ring, use a cloth free of lint. Some people opt to allow the ring to air dry on the cloth. If the ring must be dried right away, dab it dry without rubbing.

Simply employing common sense is the key to caring for and cleaning diamond rings. Never wear it when performing intense activities with the hands and do not store it in a container that can scratch the band or chip the stone. Using a gentle cleaning solution and soft brushes to wash it will keep the diamond ring shining brightly for years to come.
