Looking After Your Clothes – Easy To Follow Guidelines
At a time when we are all looking for ways to get the most out of our money, it is more important than ever that you treat your clothes well to make sure they look their best for as long as possible. Our guide gives you some clothing care to help you do just that. One slightly obvious point – but a point still worth making – is to hang up your clothes wherever possible, and fold them up neatly if hanging isn’t an option.
The label instructions on your clothes are also there for a reason. This means that if you have an item of clothing that says ‘dry cleaning only’, it needs to have specialist cleaning as going in a washing machine might damage it. It can also help to wash similar colors separately so they stay vibrant and don’t leak. For example, a lot of people split their clothes into a dark colors’ wash, a white wash and then another wash for the rest of their clothes.
You should also be careful what you do if your clothes become stained: if you use too much bleach or scrub the stains too hard then this can cause the fabric to start wearing away. Eventually, holes might form. If in doubt with a stain, it might be worth seeking expert advice to be on the safe side. You should also make sure you use a good detergent that won’t be abrasive: not only is this important for your clothes but it will be kinder on your skin.
Occasionally, even the best of clothing tears or rips, most often at the seams: accidents do happen from time to time. If you find yourself in this situation then you should be able to fix your clothes to extend their life, rather than just immediately throwing them away. One option is to get them professionally mended, but you can also do it yourself depending on what you’re trying to mend, such as by making sure to patch things from the inside so it won’t show on the outside.
Lastly, the way you dry your clothes can also have an impact when it comes to keeping them looking good. To keep them in good condition, make sure you remove delicate items before you put anything into the tumble dryer (if you use one) as some things are too flimsy to go in. Also, while fabric dries really well in the open air, you should be careful if it’s sunny as the sun can sometimes start to bleach the fabric: just make sure to keep an eye on it.
